What seems good and righteous by human standards is not always what Jesus says is good and righteous. Following Him and testing what is from Him is the only way to know for sure. Following other ways is aligning with something not of Him. Trust your soul to Him and His righteous ways and He will carry you through your trials.
Scriptures:
Bible Verse: 2 Corinthians 11:14-15 NIV
Concept: Satan masquerades as an angel of light
Bible Verse: 1 John 4 NIV
Concept: Testing the spirit of Jesus vs. the spirit of the antichrist
Questions to Consider:
- Have you asked God whether the truths you believe in and the people you follow are from Jesus?
- Do the people you follow ask you to take actions that defy the commandments and teachings of the Bible?
- Do you know scripture and test sermons and prophecies against them?
- Do the promised outcomes of people you follow always come true? Are these outcomes promised in the Bible by God?
- Are you promised money, social status, friends, or security in exchange for service? Does the Bible promise these?
- Does the Jesus you are following match your culture or what is written in the Bible?
Prayer:
Holy Father, teach me how to test words, spirits, and people so I know what is of You and what is of evil. Give me the strength and direction each moment to follow You and not abandon my faith in Jesus. Lead me to walk with others who are strong and uncompromising in Your goodness and truth. When I have dark days and it seems like life isn’t working out as my mind would like it to, teach me what is happening. God, You and You alone are my desire. Shed any desires from my heart and mind that do not match Yours. Cleanse me of any untruth. Show me what the world’s teachings are that I must abandon. Show me how to walk away from lies and deceptions. In Jesus’ good and glorious name, Amen.
